History of Bear Manor

Bear Manor is an italianate Victorian grand single family home built in 1875 by prominent Peekskill resident and businessman Wilbur Wessels.  It is
Located on Paulding street which is named after John Paulding a revolutionary war hero who apprehended British Army Major John Andre who was guilty of trading military secrets with traitor Benedict Arnold.  Major John Andre was ordered to be executed by hanging by then General George Washington.
 
Bear Manor is surrounded with an elegant and generous wrap around porch, and crowned with delicate cresting which is the wrought iron decorative trim along the top roof of the house.  It has been restored by current owner Mr. Kaminsky in a 3 year labor of love that brought back to their original beauty fireplaces, chimneys, front and rear porches, parquet floors, crown mouldings, grand doors, and more.

Getting There

Directions from Manhattan (By Train): 

Buy a MetroNorth ticket  for the Hudson Line, departing Manhattan from Grand Central Terminal or Harlem 125th St. You may also plan your trip using MTA Metro North’s Trip Planner website (also available in the app.) 

After about one hour you’ll reach Peekskill Station which is about a 15 minute walk from town. Alternatively, Ubers and other rideshare arrive quickly.

Directions from Manhattan (By Car): 

Start on the West Side Highway (NY-9A N). merging onto the Henry Hudson Parkway, Saw Mill River Parkway N, Taconic State Parkway N, until US-202 W/US-W where you’ll find signs for Peekskill.
